Novel Active-Passive Two-Way Ranging Protocols for UWB Positioning Systems

چکیده
This paper proposes two general active-passive two-way ranging (TWR) methods: AP1-TWR and AP2-TWR. The proposed methods rely on 2 types of anchors: passive-only. first type actively takes part in packet exchange listens to transmissions other anchors, the second only listens. Pairing these concepts with active single-sided (SS), symmetrical double-sided (SDS), alternative (AltDS) TWR provides a total six different methods. As result assigning numbers anchor types, range estimation root-mean-square-error (RMSE), or air time efficiency, both, can be improved. Simulation results show that surpasses performance best method by employing 10 while AP2-TWR same mark 6 anchors. Further validate that, compared AP1-TWR, gives relative improvement RMSE about 20% every configuration, making overall better performing method. Without loss number available estimates, both could also increase efficiency keeping anchors minimum increasing amount passive

Passive devices for UWB systems
The release from the U.S. Federal Communication Commission (FCC) of the unlicensed use of the Ultra-Wide-Band (UWB) frequency range of 3.1-10.6 GHz, fed the interest for developing communication systems to be used on applications requiring high data rate transmission. The complete success and spreading of these novel applications requires inexpensive and reliable UWB communication systems and d...

This paper demonstrates two methods which simultaneously undertake synchronization and ranging based on a time-of-arrival approach with bidirectional communication to bypass the need for accurate synchronous clocking. In order to alleviate multipath effects, Tomlinson-Harashima precoding and UWB signaling are used to measure the distance between pairs of sensors. The proposed schemes are shown ...
متن کامل713. Indoor positioning using symmetric double-sided two-way ranging in a welding hall
We introduce a method by which to locate sensors in a 2.4 GHz wireless network. We tested our system in a rough welding hall, where plasma cutters and welding machines commonly cause radio interference. Indoor positioning is a challenge because standardized GPStype global-positioning technologies are not available. There is therefore a need for extra infrastructure, such as wireless sensors, bu...
متن کاملModeling Distance and Bandwidth Dependency of TOA-Based UWB Ranging Error for Positioning
A statistical model for the range error provided by TOA estimation using UWB signals is given, based on UWB channel measurements between 3.1 and 10.6 GHz. The range error has been modeled as a Gaussian random variable for LOS and as a combination of a Gaussian and an exponential random variable for NLOS. The distance and bandwidth dependency of both the mean and the standard deviation of the ra...
